'working honestly': bbmp speeds up work for potholes free bengaluru roads as 15-day deadline nears

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner, Tushar Girinath, informed that all the potholes in the city will be filled by September 17. This move follows Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s 15-day deadline to address all the potholes in the city.

After inspecting the ongoing pothole-filling work in Yelahanka, Girinath said that BBMP officials are working diligently to meet the deadline set by DK Shivakumar. Girinath stated, "We are working honestly and are confident of filling all the potholes that have been reported by September 17. However, new potholes might appear, and there may be a few unreported ones. We will address those once we have finished filling all the potholes reported by the public," as quoted by Deccan Herald.

He also mentioned that to meet the deadline, BBMP officials will continue working over the weekend and on Monday (September 16). Girinath added, "The weather conditions are also favorable as there is no rain. Hence, we will procure more hot mix and try to increase the pace of work," Deccan Herald quoted.

Additionally to fix the pothole situation in Bengaluru and to increase the fixing work, BBMP is using a social machine. A news18 report mentioned that they are using a machine called Jet Patcher making the work easier and faster. Given the challenge of manually repairing thousands of potholes within the set timeframe, the use of Jet patchers has significantly sped up the process.

The machine employed by BBMP can repair potholes ranging in size from 150 to 180 square meters in one go. Typically, repairing such a pothole manually takes about an hour. The Jet patcher first cuts the road and fills the pothole with asphalt, which is a blend of aggregates, binder, and filler used in road construction. Afterward, it levels the surface with a compactor, making the process faster and more efficient, news 18 report added.
