will shubman gill return from injury in 2nd test vs australia? india coach gives massive update

After their comprehensive 295-run win in the first Test at Perth, India will look to continue their momentum in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy when they take on Australia in the second Test at the iconic Adelaide Oval in a day-night affair. One of the big misses in the playing XI from the first Test was Shubman Gill. The star batter missed out from playing the first game as he had injured his finger during the practice game against India A before the first Test. Now, India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar provided an update on his fitness.

Shubman Gill Is Batting Now: Abhishek Nayar

India are set to take on the Prime Minister's XI in a two-day practice match with the pink ball at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Ahead of this game, Abhishek Nayar confirmed that Shubman Gill is batting right now. However, he is not aware of his status as the physio will do his evaluation. However, he looked comfortable while batting, even though he trained indoors. However, it is still not confirmed if hr will play the practice match starting November 30.

"He is batting now. The evaluation will be done by our physio. I am not aware of his status. But, when batting, he looked very comfortable. He is batting indoors. We will assess whether he will play tomorrow's match after the assessment," Nayar said.

Cheteshwar Pujara Wants Shubman Gill At No.5

In an interaction with ESPN Cricinfo, Cheteshwar Pujara said that he would prefer the same batting order in the first Test, wherein KL Rahul and Yasahsvi Jaiswal opened, with Rohit Sharma coming in at no.3. However if Rohit opens the batting he wants KL Rahul to bat at no.3, with Shubman Gill coming at no.5.

"I think, for some reason if we can carry on with the same batting order, like KL and Yashasvi to open, Rohit could come in at three, and Shubman could come in at five. If Rohit wants to open, KL should bat at No. 3. Nothing later than that. I think he has to bat top of the order, because it suits his game really well. I hope we don't tinker around with that," Pujara said.
