He looked after political programs and news on the group's Al-Manar TV and played a crucial role in managing media coverage throughout the conflict between Israel and Lebanon that took place in July 2006, Al Jazeera reported.

In his recent comments to reporters on November 11, he had said that Israeli soldiers had been unable to capture any area in Lebanon and that Hezbollah had enough weaponry and supplies to wage a "long war," Al Jazeera stated.
The assassination of Afif is the latest in the chain of killings of top leaders in the group, including its chief Hassan Nasrallah who died in an Israeli strike on a residential building in Beirut in September.
Following the death of Afif, military analyst Elijah Magnier told Al Jazeera that the killing of the media relations officer is part of the Jewish nation's strategy to disrupt Hezbollah's leadership and communication abilities with the world.
