Actor Gavin Creel's death Monday at the age of 48 was confirmed by his partner Gavin Alex Temple. An openly gay person, Creel was known for his gay rights activism and was one of the founders of Broadway Impact, an LBGT rights activism group comprising members of the New York theatre community.
Before dating Alex Temple Ward, actor Jonathan Groff, was also a Tony Award winner like Creel. He was in a relationship with Alex Temple Ward at the time of his death. However, the duo kept their relationship private, and nothing is known about Ward except that he was in a relationship with Creel.
Gavin Creel, a leading musical artist at the Broadway debuted for a role in 2002 for Thoroughly Modern Millie. He has received a Tony Award nomination for two times for his outstanding acts in 2009 Hair and 2002's Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Creel's health deteriorated after he was diagnosed with a rare form of disease known as sarcoma. Just two months after his diagnosis, Creel breathed his last today.
On the occasion of Creel's death Tony awards committee mourned and remembered his iconic performances in his Broadway career. He had rose to fame with his remarkable acts in Mary Poppins and The Book of Mormon, in which he had got an Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical play.
Creel's funeral will be held in an intimate ceremony which still awaits a date.
Gavin Creel is currently survived by his mother, his partner Alex Temple Ward and sisters Allyson Jo Creel and Heather Elise Creel.
