His profound love for "man's best friend" is highlighted by the event that took place in 2018 when he turned down a prestigious honour from the UK Royal Family. The event was organised by King Charles III, then known as Prince Charles to honour Ratan Tata with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his exceptional philanthropic contributions. The award ceremony, hosted by the British Asian Trust, was set to take place at Buckingham Palace on February 6, 2018.

Initially, Tata had confirmed his attendance at the event, but as the date approached, he made the heartfelt choice to cancel his plans. The reason? His dog had become seriously ill, and Tata opted to stay home to care for his beloved companion instead of attending the royal ceremony. This touching story, shared by businessman Suhel Seth, has recently resurfaced on social media.
Recalling the incident, Suhel Seth shared in a video that he arrived in London on February 2nd or 3rd, 2018, for an event honoring Ratan Tata. To his surprise, he found 11 missed calls from Tata himself. When Seth returned the call, Ratan Tata explained, “Tango and Tito, my dogs—one of them has fallen terribly ill. I can’t leave him and come.”
