As the world bids a tearful farewell to iconic designer Rohit Bal, many are fondly remembering his unforgettable contribution to Indian fashion. On November 1, 2024, he died at the age of 63 after suffering a heart attack. Over his career spanning decades, Rohit Bal had designed outfits for all the A-listers including Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Sonam Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai and others.
The founding member of the prestigious Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) had also worked closely with the team of Kaun Banega Crorepati and designed outfits for host Amitabh Bachchan. His elegant, spirited designs brought Big B’s KBC looks to life in a way only he could. Back in 2012, Amitabh had, in fact, tweeted his excitement about being dressed by Rohit for another season of KBC.
When Big B had praised Rohit Bal for designing his KBC outfits
Every time Bachchan appeared on the KBC set in one of Rohit’s creations, he looked every bit the legend he is. And that’s exactly what Bal did best— he had this incredible ability to pour his passion into every thread. Rohit Bal had dressed Amitabh for various seasons of KBC. In May 2012, Amitabh had once tweeted about his happiness in being styled by the designer for the next season of the quiz-based TV reality show.
Amitabh Bachchan had written at the time, "The designing of the look on KBC by Rohit ‘Gudda’ Bal… just lifts your spirits when you wear his outfits… that jacket… hmmm."
Remembering Rohit Bal
The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) had said in a statement on Instagram saying, "We mourn the passing of legendary designer Rohit Bal, Known for his unique blend of traditional patterns with modern sensibilities, Bal's work redefined Indian fashion, and inspired generations."
FDCI chairman Sunil Sethi had said on Instagram that Rohit's death, popularly called Gudda, 'will leave a void in the fashion design space forever'. "Everyone admired him for his attention to detail, how beautifully his lotus bloomed on modern shapes and his understanding of what modern women desired," Sunil said.
Rohit had been admitted to Aashlok Hospital in Safdarjung Enclave, Delhi.
