New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi is outperforming all the expectations in her debut poll that she contested from Kerala’s Wayanad after her brother Rahul Gandhi left it following his victory in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi in 2024 Lok Sabah polls. Priyanka is leading by a margin of 3,77,517 votes which is more than the margin Rahul Gandhi won from the seat.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi secured a massive victory from the seat by securing 6,47,445 votes by a margin of 3,64,422.
By the time of writing this article, Priyanka had secured 5,78,526 votes and counting is underway. Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate Sathyan Mokeri is a distant second with 2,02,261 votes while BJP's Navya Haridas is third on the list with 1,06,724 votes.
Priyanka is the candidate of the Congress-led UDF alliance in the hill constituency. Amid counting, Priyanka extended her lead by close to 3.5 lakh votes after four hours of counting of the ballots in the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-poll.
"An amazing first trend on counting day is the massive early lead for our leader @priyankagandhi ji in Wayanad, Kerala, by-election. People of Wayanad are surely going to record in victory margins today and Priyanka ji will make Parliamentary debut with a grand win," Telangana CM Revanth Reddy said in a post on X.
Reddy and Congress' ally Indian Union Muslim League said Priyanka would get more votes than Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha polls in April this year and will win by a record margin.
