A Belgian photographer recently captured a stunning volcanic eruption in Iceland, offering a rare glimpse of nature's beauty. Jeroen Van Nieuwenhove shared the breathtaking footage on Instagram, showcasing the ongoing eruption at the Sundhnuksgigar volcanic craters, which has lasted for over a week. Iceland, known for its volcanic activity, is home to more than 100 volcanic mountains, making such events not uncommon in the Nordic island country.

Van Nieuwenhove, who had special access to the restricted area as a member of the press, used a drone to capture the hypnotic scenes of molten lava flowing into the crater, creating mesmerising patterns. In his caption, he wrote, “The various patterns and movement directions are really mind-boggling to watch. From top to bottom, I estimate the distance to be about 30 metres based on altitude and the lens I used.”

According to reports from Fox Weather, the volcano has erupted six times since late last year. Nieuwenhove’s video has since gained widespread attention for its striking portrayal of the natural phenomenon.

Meanwhile, another visual journalist, Marco Di Marco, was also in Iceland, where he managed to capture a unique blend of the Northern Lights and an active volcanic crater. His video, titled "Lights and Fountains," shows the vivid auroras dancing above the fiery red glow of lava fountains, creating a surreal night sky. Di Marco noted that three vents opened at the site on August 22, with one producing 70-80-meter-high lava fountains. He assured that no infrastructure is currently under threat from the ongoing volcanic activity.

Jeroen Van Nieuwenhove reacted to Di Marco's post, commenting, “This is what happens when the golden duo comes together,” referring to the stunning combination of the Northern Lights and volcanic eruptions. Both videos have drawn significant attention, offering a rare and mesmerising look at Iceland's dynamic landscape.
