Wasim Akram has subtly expressed his disinterest in the Indian Premier League (IPL). During a commentary stint for the first ODI between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Akram revealed that he has “checked out” of the IPL.
A video clip of his comments has been circulating on social media, where he can be heard discussing the IPL with fellow commentator Mark Howard. While the exact reasons for his disinterest are unclear, the statement has sparked curiosity among fans.
With the 2025 IPL auction likely only a few weeks away, the commentators were discussing the likely price for Australia’s opening batter Jake Fraser-McGurk. But Wasim Akram quipped, saying that he does not watch the hugely popular T20 league.
When asked why? Akram replied, "Because we are not allowed anymore."
It is worth noting that Akram has been a prominent figure in the IPL, having served as a mentor and bowling coach for various franchises.

"They will likely come to Lahore and travel back the same night. I’m all for it, as long as India is comfortable And I can promise you, they are going to be looked after amazingly well," Akram told reporters.
Akram also highlighted the immense fan-following Indian cricketers have in Pakistan and said, “Indian cricketers like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav have fans in Pakistan. Young cricket fans adore them.”
