Rishabh Pant ended his nine-season association with Delhi Capitals (DC) on the IPL 2025 retention day to enter the mega-auction. The former DC captain was one of the top contenders to make history at the mega-auction and he emerged as the costliest pick. Rishabh joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 27 crore.
A day after the IPL 2025 mega-auction, Parth Jindal, DC's co-owner, shared an emotional post for Rishabh. Parth called Rishabh his younger brother, adding that he was sad to see Rishabh go from DC.
"To Rishabh @RishabhPant17 you are and will always remain my younger brother – from the bottom of my heart I love you and I have tried everything to make sure you are happy and have treated you like my family. I am very sad to see you go and I am very emotional about it. You will always be in DC and I hope one day we can reunite. Thank you for everything Rishabh and remember that we will always love you – go well champ, the world is at your feet. Best wishes from all of us at @DelhiCapitals – other than when you play DC I will be cheering and hoping for the best for you!" Parth wrote on X.

Rishabh started his IPL career with DC in 2016. The Delhi-based franchise retained its homegrown player before the IPL 2018 and 2022 mega-auctions. He took over DC's captaincy before IPL 2021.
DC backed Rishabh and retained him as the captain even when Shreyas returned for the second half of IPL 2021. DC released Iyer while they retained Rishabh. They failed to play a final under Rishabh's captaincy.
DC tried to re-sign Rishabh Pant
Delhi Capitals tried to re-sign Rishabh Pant at the IPL 2025 mega-auction and used their Right to Match card after he was sold to Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 20.75 crore. LSG raised their bid to Rs 27 crore, which DC did not match. Rishabh looks all but set to take over LSG's captaincy in 2025. Interestingly, former LSG captain, KL Rahul joined DC in the mega-auction.
