Released on October 22 in 1999, Upendra starring and directed by Upendra alongside Prema, Raveena Tandon and Damini in the lead role is set to re-release on Upendra’s birthday on September 18.
First A, Now Upendra
Recently, Upendra's another cult classic A was re-released to great response from the Kannada audience, especially die-hard fans of the actor-director.
After Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar starrer Jackie released on the occasion of the actor’s birth anniversary, his two other popular films, Anjani Putra and Power Star were re-released.
It was followed by Upendra's 1998 classic cult film A that introduced him as a hero.
Other films to re-release are Dr Vishnuvardhan's 1986 film – Krishna Nee Begane Baroo and Darshan’s Shashtri and Kariya. Director Upendra’s Om
Upendra explores themes of money, responsibility and love. It captivated a younger audience and garnered critical acclaim. Despite facing criticism for its bold approach, the film was a major commercial success, grossing around Rs 10 crore.

The cast
Upendra features Raveena Tandon, Prema and Damini in pivotal roles with Marimuthu playing the antagonist.
The film’s unique approach and Upendra’s distinctive directorial vision solidified its place in Kannada cinema history. Produced by Shilpa Srinivas and with music composed by Gurukiran, Upendra was only the second film where Upendra took on a full-fledged lead role.
As the film marks its 25th anniversary, its re-release on Upendra’s birthday is seen as a tribute to his enduring legacy in the Kannada film industry.
