This protest is in response to the Manipur government's decision to create seven new districts in December 2016, a move the UNC claims was done without consulting key stakeholders, including the Naga community. The Naga body argues that this action violates multiple agreements between the government and the Naga people.
Despite several rounds of tripartite talks involving the Government of Manipur, the UNC, and the Government of India, no resolution has been reached, leading to frustration within the Naga community. The UNC is demanding the immediate rollback of these districts, citing the division and unrest caused by the decision.
The bandh will not impact essential services, media, or emergency situations, but the UNC urges the Naga public to support the protest in their fight for justice.
