A social media post, claiming that people in several US states will get a $2000 government stimulus check as the festive season begins, went viral. The rumor has surfaced several times in the past year and has again attracted attention following Donald Trump's win in the 2024 presidential election on November 5.
However, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website stated that no new economic stimulus payments were scheduled. The IRS released three rounds of these payments during the Covid 19 pandemic. The last one was distributed around three years ago.

"The IRS has issued all first, second, and third Economic Impact Payments. You can no longer use the Get My Payment application to check your payment status," the IRS website stated.
Although the majority of qualified beneficiaries have received their checks, those who have not yet can still try to claim it on a future tax return. The deadline to submit a return and claim the 2020 credit has passed; nevertheless, the deadline to file and claim the credit for 2021 is April 15, 2025.
