Chennai: The city has been witnessing spells of rainfall over the past few days. In response to the rainy conditions in Chennai, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning on Thursday. Today, the weather prediction indicates thunderstorms with rain. The maximum temperature is expected to be 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be 26 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity fluctuated between 77 percent and 80 percent.
According to weather forecasters, Cyclone Dana may affect parts of South Tamil Nadu and Kerala. However, coastal areas like Chennai will not be significantly affected, and the city will experience warm days due to weak Northeast monsoon. A weather forecaster on X (formerly twitter), identified as Chennai Rains, explained in a post, "As #CycloneDana heads towards the #Odisha coast for landfall later tonight, widespread #rains are likely over South #Kerala along with parts of South #TamilNadu for the next 3 to 4 days. Meanwhile, coastal places like #Chennai will see warm days due to weak #NEM2024 conditions."
