throwback: when taapsee pannu talked about playing sexual assault survivor in pink

Pink was a special film for the entire cast, including Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan. As the film clocks 8 years, here is a throwback interview with the star of the show Taapsee Pannu. In this conversation with Zoom, the actress talks about playing the survivor of sexual assault.

Did you sense Pink was going to be a special film in your career?

When I was offered Pink by Shoojit Sircar, I knew this was going to be a powerful statement on contemporary women and sexual aggression. The film is set in Delhi and I am a Delhi girl. I know what it is like for women to be heckled, harassed, and attacked, and I don’t mean attacked just physically. Verbal eve-teasing is as insulting and damaging to a woman as physical assault. Why do we segregate and discriminate one sort of violation from another?

It couldn’t have been easy playing the violated girl?

Every day I'd come on the set to face one more day of the most gruelling scenes. No sensitive person could remain unaffected by the situation I had to go through and the dialogues I had to speak. I have to admit Pink has been the most challenging role of my career.

You got to work with Amitabh Bachchan for the first time in Pink!

Mr, Bachchan is a rock star with a terrific sense of humour. We had a blast on the sets. Not that I ever had any preconceived notions of him being anything but a chilled-out rock star. I was always told by everyone who has worked with him that he is quite cool. So I remain myself in front of him. I don't have to pretend to be prim and proper. He is easy-going.
