Variations of Uttapam
Ragi is believed to be one of the nutritious millets that you can add to your menu. From strengthening the immune system to managing overall health, adding this to your menu is considered essential for health.
Ingredients
1 cup ragi, 2 carrots, 1 tomato, 1 capsicum, 1 tsp methi seeds, 1 pinch asafoetida, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tsp red chilli powder, salt as required, 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
Step 1
Start by gathering the ingredients and adding ragi, urad dal and methi seeds into the mixture grinder. Soak the mixture for around 7-8 hours. Ensure that the ingredients are immersed properly in the bowl.
Step 2
Once the mixture is soaked completely, wash it nicely to remove any dirt and dust. Rinse twice and transfer to another bowl. Ground into a smooth paste and beat the mixture for some time. Allow the batter to ferment for about 6-7 hours. Keep the batter undisturbed.
Step 3
After the batter is fermented, stir powdered spices including salt, garam masala, turmeric, red chilli powder and coriander powder into the mixture. Give the powder a good mix and keep it aside. Ensure that the spices are mixed evenly.
Step 4
Next, heat oil or ghee in a pan and pour a ladleful of ragi uttapam batter. Spread the batter in a circular form and ensure it’s a bit thick. Once you start seeing the spots, top the uttapam with chopped veggies including carrots, onion and tomatoes. You can also add any veggie of your choice.
Step 5
Cook it carefully and once the uttapam is crispy from the bottom, gently flip the uttapam and ensure that the veggies are not falling off. Cook both sides evenly and directly transfer to the serving plate. Serve hot with chutney and enjoy!
