Is every jail-break story genetically related? If not, then what are these comparisons between Abhinay Deo's Savi and Vasan Bala’sJigra about? Savi released on May 31 this year, whileJigra released on October 11. The Alia Bhatt starrer was completed in February 2024, a good three months ahead of Savi‘s release.
The entire comparison is absurd, and timeline-challenged. Whoever thought of it must have very little to do in life except create unwarranted controversies. In Savi, Divya Khossla plans a jail escape for her wrongly incarcerated husband. It feels unreal and yet it feels very real as an Indian housewife, Savi (Divya Khossla), must get her husband Nakul (Harshvardhan Rane) out of a high-security prison in London. The efficacy of the thriller as Savi plans her husband’s rescue with the help of a mysterious convict-turned-writer Mr Paul (Anil Kapoor) is never compromised even as rescue plan begins to look progressively impractical. At one point, you may wonder, what the hell. But don’t forget: hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

The same is true inJigra, as Alia Bhatt wears the cape of super-heroism with melancholic resignation. She is the epitome of a cornered hero. When pushed against the wall, she won’t bawl. She will fight with all her might to set the imbalance right. As Satya, Alia Bhatt is all for a good fight against injustice. But it’s not about reforming society , or even changing mindsets. This time, it’s very personal. She just wants to get her brother back.

These are two women who want the their loved ones back at any cost. That’s where the similarities end. Abhinay Deo’s direction in Savi is as apart from Vasan Bala’s Jigra as the series Jailbreak is from the film Shawshank Redemption.

You can’t compare Hema Malini with Ayushmann Khurrana just because they are both called Dream Girl.
