A police officer was among four people injured following an alleged stabbing incident in Sydney’s south on Sunday. The violent incident happened in Engadine, close to the Princess Highway, and it caused major disruptions as well as a large emergency reaction.
Reports of a multiple car collision appeared, and at around 9:15 a.m., emergency services were called to the site on Old Bush Road. Responders arrived and found that many people inside the cars had reportedly been stabbed. A police officer who sustained a serious cut to his left wrist while making an arrest was one of the injured.
A 40-year-old lady and a number of other passengers were swiftly taken to St. George Hospital for treatment in addition to the officer. It was stated that one patient had an abdominal stab wound, while another had a fractured arm. According to reports, one person experienced a heart attack there.
Paramedics attended to the accused attacker, a 55-year-old male, before the authorities placed him under arrest. A fourth person was also discovered injured, according to a statement released by New South Wales (NSW) Police, though it was not immediately apparent how they were involved in the event.
The situation was characterized by witnesses as chaotic and upsetting, with one witness mentioning that there was "blood everywhere." A chopper was observed circling above as a component of the emergency support. Witnesses also claimed to have seen a guy who had apparently tried to elude police being tasered.
According to reports, the first incident started with a car rushing through traffic and colliding with many other cars. At the crossroads, a blue Mitsubishi vehicle was seen twisted and strewn across many meters of the road. After it climbed the curb close to a pedestrian crossing, another automobile was discovered to be seriously damaged.
Paramedics and Fire and Rescue teams were among the emergency responders who moved quickly to help the injured. First responders covered the incident from the public's view with a huge dark green sheet while they carried one passenger aboard a NSW ambulance.
Princess Highway was closed in both directions between Farnell Avenue and Loftus-Heathcote Road as a result of the incident. Authorities advised motorists to avoid the area as they continued their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event.
Police are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the sequence of events that led to the stabbing and subsequent injuries. The situation remains under review, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
