A video of India pacer Mohammed Shami's practice session in the nets has gone viral, even as doubts over his travel to Australia next month loom large. He is expected to play a key role in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy but his injury issues, which are almost a year old now, haven't been ending. India skipper Rohit Sharma recently said that he had swelling on his feet, which has delayed his return.
Shami came to the nets after India’s first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru on Sunday, October 20 and bowled under the watchful eyes of bowling coach Morne Morkel. He bowled to India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.
Shami had a lengthy chat with Morkel once he finished the training session around 4 pm as well. On Wednesday, he posted a video of himself bowling in the nets, providing hope to fans of an impending return.

Shami's brother Mohammed Kaif, who is now a regular pacer for Bengal in the absence of Akash Deep from the domestic squad, commented on the post, "Masha allah".
Rohit had said that he doesn't want to take an “undercooked” Shami on the tour of Australia in November. Notably, Shami has played eight Tests in Australia and has picked a whopping 31 wickets, emphasising his importance for the tour.
“It is quite tough for a fast bowler, having missed so much cricket and then suddenly to come out and be at his best,” Rohit had said ahead of the first Test against New Zealand.

Shami hasn't played for India since the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia on November 19 owing to the injury.
India are expected to leave for Australia two weeks before the series opener in Perth starting November 22, leaving Shami just about enough time to feature in two Ranji Trophy matches for Bengal.
While it is highly unlikely that he will feature in the upcoming tie against Kerala which begins on Saturday, October 26, it needs to be seen if he can play against Karnataka from November 6.
