England's legendary bowler Stuart Broad has reflected on what is likely the lowest moment of his cricketing career, making a humorous confession about it. In one of T20 cricket’s most memorable moments, Broad was hit for six consecutive sixes by India’s Yuvraj Singh during the 19th over of a game in the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa.
Recalling the incident now in 2024, Broad joked that Yuvraj might have hit seven sixes in a row if not for an error by the umpire.
He jokingly remarked that it could have been seven sixes if the umpire had noticed that one of the deliveries was a no-ball.
During the onslaught, Broad decided to bowl from over the wicket. So he switched to bowling the fourth delivery from around the wicket, hoping for a different outcome. However, he delivered a full toss, which Yuvraj hammered over point for another six. In hindsight, the ex England star pacer thought the ball could have been deemed a waist-high no-ball, humorously adding that Yuvraj might have hit a seventh six if it had been called.
"I've never watched that back, but I must admit, I got lucky to get away with a no ball," Broad told ex England captain Michael Atherton during a commentary stint. "It could've been seven sixes!" he further added.
In that memorable match, India eventually secured an 18-run victory. Yuvraj later delivered another stunning performance, scoring 70 runs off 30 balls against Australia in the semifinals, helping India win the first-ever T20 World Cup.
Speaking of Broad after that incident, he achieved elite status by picking up 604 wickets in 167 Test matches for England. In T20Is, he played 56 matches, picking up 65 wickets in the process and in his ODI career, he scalped 178 wickets in 121 matches. He is also England's second-most capped player in Tests after James Anderson.
