A Gulf of Mexico tropical storm, Milton, could turn into a powerful hurricane before making landfall in Florida days after Helene caused havoc in the panhandle region last week. According to forecasters, Milton – formed on Saturday – could begin to impact the continental US next week. Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency is several counties.
The counties include: Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, DeSoto, Flagler, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Marion, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter and Volusia.

"Anticipated disturbance moving across the Gulf of Mexico and expected to be at or near major hurricane strength when it reaches the west coast of the Florida Peninsula mid week. Make sure you’re having the conversations this week in your school to Think Ahead. Be Prepared. Have a Plan!"
