Mohammed Shami has been out of action for more than a year, having last played for India in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023. This is because he had suffered an ankle injury and has now been rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. There were reports that he had once again suffered an injury there which could have further delayed his return. However, it looks like he is set to return to the Indian team sooner rather than later.
Mohammed Shami Might Make Return Against New Zealand
India are all set to take on New Zealand in a three-match Test Series beginning from November 16. According to a report by Anandabazar Patrika, Shami might return in this particular series. This was made even particularly clear when the star fast bowler was not included in the Bengal squad for the first two rounds of the Ranji Trophy 2024.
Mohammed Shami Injured Again?
According to a report by The Times of India, Mohammed Shami, while rehabilitating from his ankle injury at the NCA, once again suffered a knee injury that could rule him out of action for a further six to eight weeks.
"Shami had resumed bowling and he was looking on track to make a comeback to competitive cricket soon. But this knee injury has flared up recently. BCCI's medical team is assessing the injury but it may require quite a bit of time. It's a jolt for the NCA medical team. They have been working on him for over a year. They have one of the best workload management systems in place. The medical team is trying its best to put him back in the park soon," a BCCI source told TOI.
However, the star pacer has recently rubbished these reports of him missing the Border-Gavaskr Trophy later this year. calling them nothing but baseless rumours
"Why these types of baseless rumours? I'm working hard and trying my level best to recover. Neither the BCCI nor I have mentioned that I am out of the Border Gavaskar series. I request the public to stop paying attention to such news from unofficial sources. Please stop and don’t spread such fake fake fake & fake news, especially without my statement," he posted on X.
