somy ali gets featured in forbes and fortune: 'saving 50,000 lives was worth it'

Doesn't it feel rewarding when you get recognised for the work you do? Right now, Somy Ali is basking in the glory. For those who don't know, the former actress is now an activist who runs an NGO called No More Tears. It helps to save, protect, and rehabilitate victims of domestic and sexual abuse. Recently, while interacting exclusively with Zoom, Somy had also spoken a bit about her noble deeds. Well, her efforts will now be rewarded in Forbes and Fortune: upcoming editions carry Somy.

Somy says, “Well, let's put it this way: when I was awarded by two US Presidents, I almost fainted, and now to be featured in both Forbes and Fortune is indescribably surreal. It’s the highest compliment, honour, respect, and prestige one can receive. I am shell shocked, to say the least. I mean, billionaires are featured in Forbes and Fortune. People pray and wish they would be featured in those magazines. And, here, I am featured in both unimaginable to me. I know my mother will be very proud."

When asked how this recognition will help No More Tears, Somy says, “This will be gargantuan for NMT because the people who read and are featured in both these magazines are billionaires, and this increases our chances to get new board members and new donors. Both, we are seeking rather desperately since the previous board served their time limit of six years, and now we need a new board. It’s like starting from the very beginning with a new board and donors. I am elated, ecstatic, on cloud nine, and every word for happiness in the dictionary.”

Somy Ali also holds a rank in the list of the top 100 most powerful women in business. However, for her, saving the victims matters more. “I don’t like complimenting my work or myself, but this isn’t about that as it’s about the victims and saving them, which gives me the permission to do so, thus the being held at gunpoint, several physical attacks, being spat on my abusers, and concluding in saving 50,000 lives would have been worth it even if I had lost my life doing what I love doing the most. So, yes, I am proud of myself more than ever because I couldn’t dream of this ever taking place, and that too for something I would literally give my life for is hard to swallow. I believe they chose me because I don’t take a salary, and they said they have been following me on social media for years, and the lives I have saved while risking my own are what made them select me not for one, but both magazines.”
