slashed travel time, phase and more: key details about delhi-meerut expressway

The Delhi-Meerut Expressway has drastically reduced travel time between Delhi and Meerut, cutting it down from 2.5 hours to just 45 minutes. This expressway, which opened to the public on April 1, 2021, has improved connectivity between Delhi and Western Uttar Pradesh towns like Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, and Haridwar, while also linking established areas of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Hapur.

Key Features of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway

Length and Phases: Spanning 96 kilometres, the expressway is divided into four phases:

Phase 1: 8.7 km from Nizamuddin Bridge to the Delhi-UP Border.

Phase 2: 19.2 km from Delhi-UP Border to Dasna.

Phase 3: 22 km from Dasna to Hapur.

Phase 4: 46 km from Dasna to Meerut, the longest stretch, as per a Magic Bricks report.

Infrastructure and Facilities: The expressway includes 24 bridges, 10 flyovers, three railway overpasses, 35 underpasses, and 15 pedestrian walkways. More than 4,500 street lights have been installed along the route for enhanced visibility and safety, and CCTV cameras monitor the expressway for security.

Lane Distribution:

The first 27.74 km of the expressway is a 14-lane stretch, while the remainder of the route is 6 lanes. This lane distribution aids in managing heavy traffic and ensures smooth flow along the entire route.

Signal-Free Travel: The expressway has removed 31 traffic signals on the previous Delhi-Meerut Road, making it a completely signal-free corridor, which has significantly improved travel times and convenience.
