Speaking to the media at a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) event, Malik said that doesn't have any interest in playing for Pakistan now. "I have already said that I do not have any interest in playing for the Pakistan Cricket team. I have already retired from two formats, Tests and ODIs. In T20Is, I do not have any interest in playing for the Pakistan team. So my plan is to retire from all forms of cricket once and for all," he said.

Malik retired from Test cricket in 2015. He scored 1898 runs and scalped 32 wickets in 35 Tests. Malik had a long ODI career and he played 287 matches. He scored 7534 runs and scalped 158 wickets.

Malik was Pakistan's captain in the 2007 T20 World Cup, where they lost to India in the final. He continued to play the shortest format after retiring from ODIs but is now done with international cricket.

The 42-year-old continues to play franchise cricket and is a T20 globetrotter. He recently represented Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends. Pakistan lost to India in the final. He was part of Karachi Kings in PSL 2024.
