shami's 'favourites to hum hai' verdict sends 'loud and clear' warning to australia ahead of bgt 2024=2025

India will tour Australia for a five-match Test series in November. India have been a nemesis for Australia, having won the previous two tours to the country. The team is also undefeated to Australia at home for almost 20 years. Australia's last series win against India came in the 2014-2015 series at home. Despite India's sheer dominance in the last decade, it's no secret that Australia won't be easy to take down this time around.

India pacer Mohammed Shami, however, is not concerned about the Aussie challenge and said that the hosts should be worried about India. He said India have a psychological edge over Australia heading into the series, and had no hesitation in picking Rohit Sharma’s men as favourites for the series.

"Favourites hum hi hai (we are the favourites)," he confidently declared when asked about India's chances in the series at a Cricket Association of Bengal event.

"Chinta unhe honi chahiye, hume nahi (They should be worried about us)," Shami stated, referencing the mental edge India has gained from their previous victories.

Update On Mohammed Shami's Comeback

Meanwhile, Shami hasn’t played any cricket since the ODI World Cup 2023 where he picked up an ankle injury. He underwent a surgery earlier this year and continues to recover. Shami wasn’t named in the India squad for the Bangladesh series and is likely to miss the New Zealand Tests as well. The pacer said he would play for Bengal before donning the Indian jersey. Shami said he won’t make a comeback until he feels 100 percent fit. Shami though should be back in the Indian side for the crucial Australia tour.

“I am trying to make a return as soon as possible, because I know that I have been away from a long time now. But I also want to make sure I have no doubts in my mind when I return. The stronger I return, better it is for me, and lesser are the chances for me to get injured again. So it doesn't matter whether I return for Bangladesh, New Zealand or Australia series. I have already started bowling. But as I said, I don't want to take any risk. Until I feel 100 per cent fit, I won't agree to come back, irrespective of the format or the opposition. If I have to play domestic, I will even play that,” he said.
