Shahid Kapoor was announced as the lead of Pooja Entertainment’s big-scale mythological fantasy film, Ashwatthama: The Saga Continues. At the Amazon Prime Video event held in March in Mumbai, the title was disclosed in the presence of the film’s team. The movie based on the life of Ashwatthama, a warrior mentioned in Mahabharata, has dealt with multiple obstacles in the past and the ‘saga continues’.

According to a news portal’s report, Shahid’s Ashwatthama: The Saga Continues has been put on hold due to budget concerns. Reportedly, the cost exceeded Rs 500 crore. Touted to be mounted on a massive scale, the mythological fantasy would be shot internationally too.

A source shared with Mid-Day, “The project’s scale was enormous. The idea was to create something that could rival international fantasy-action films. Ashwatthama was supposed to be shot across multiple countries. But as we began working out the logistics and coordinating shoots across international locations, it became clear that staying within budget would be a serious challenge. Pooja Entertainment’s debt became another big factor.”

As per the report, Shahid will be going ahead with Vishal Bhardwaj’s film considering the timeline of Ashwatthama: The Saga Continues isn’t clear yet. The source added, “Given the current state of the market, studios are being cautious about green-lighting mega-budget films. A project like Ashwatthama comes with a lot of risk.”

About Ashwatthama movie

The movie on Ashwatthama was initially announced with Vicky Kaushal with Aditya Dhar serving as the director and Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies backing it. After the producer exited the film, the entire structure went for a change. Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani came on board to finance the big-budget thriller. With subsequent box office failures, Pooja Entertainment reportedly incurred massive losses.
