Mumbai: Actor Shah Rukh Khan received a ransom call demanding Rs 50 lakh ransom, police sources said. The call has been traced to Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh.
The call was made from the phone of a man identified as Faizan.
The police have recorded the actor's statement regarding the threat call.
An FIR under offence u/s 308(4), 351(3)(4) of BNS has been registered in Bandra police station.
Shah Rukh Khan is the second Bollywood superstar to receive death threats after the murder of ex-Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique last month.
Salman Khan, who was a close friend of Siddique, has been receiving death threats since the politician's murder, prompting the police to increase his protection. The police have made several arrests in connection with the threat calls to Salman Khan.
The most recent threat call to the actor was made on November 5. The call was made to the Mumbai Police Traffic Control in the name of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. "If Salman Khan wants to stay alive, he should go to our temple and apologise or give ₹5 crore. If he does not do this, we will kill him. Our gang is still active."
The caller was traced to Karnataka, following which a team of Worli police was sent to arrest him.
The Bishnoi gang has been targeting Salman Khan over a 1998 incident in which the actor was accused of hunting and killing two blackbucks, a species revered by the Bishnoi community.
This long-standing feud has led to numerous threats against the actor in recent months, including a shooting incident near his residence earlier this year.
