New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday asked Swati Maliwal to quit Rajya Sabha over her remarks for Atishi, who has been chosen as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. Hitting out at Swati Maliwal, AAP MLA Dilip Pandey accused Maliwal of “reading out” Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) script despite being sent to the Parliament by the AAP.
"Swati Maliwal takes the Rajya Sabha ticket from AAP but takes the script to react from BJP. If she has even a little shame, she should resign as a Rajya Sabha MP and choose the path to Rajya Sabha on a BJP ticket. If she wants to be in Rajya Sabha, she should get ticket from BJP," said Pandey.
Atishi was picked by AAP as the successor of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal during a legislative party meet on Tuesday. Delhi minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai said that Atishi's name was finalised as the new Delhi CM in today's party meeting unanimously.
"When he (Arvind Kejriwal) decided to resign, legislative party meeting was held today. In the meeting it was unanimously decided that until the next elections, that we want to be held in October-Novemver at the earliest, and people make Arvind Kejriwal the Delhi CM with a thumping majority, Atishi would carry out the responsibilities as the new CM," Rai said.
Swati Maliwal's Attack on Atishi
MP Swati Maliwal took a swipe at Atishi and the AAP after Arvind Kejriwal named her as the next Chief Minister of Delhi following his shock resignation. Swati Maliwal said Atishi's "family fought a long battle to save terrorist Afzal Guru", adding that "parents wrote mercy petitions to the President to save terrorist Afzal Guru".
"Today is a very sad day for Delhi. Today, a woman whose family fought a long battle to save terrorist Afzal Guru from being hanged is being made the Chief Minister of Delhi. Her parents wrote mercy petitions to the Honorable President to save terrorist Afzal Guru. According to her, Afzal Guru was innocent and was framed as part of a political conspiracy. Although Atishi Marlena is just a 'dummy CM', still this issue is related to the security of the country. May God protect Delhi!," Maliwal wrote on Twitter.
