Kolkata: A renowned singer and composer, Sanjay Chakraborty, has been arrested by the Kolkata Police for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old girl student at his yoga institute. The incident, which took place in June this year, came to light only recently.
Chakraborty, brother of the renowned Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, was arrested from Mumbai after a nearly two-month-long investigation. He has been booked under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and is currently in police custody.
According to the police, the incident occurred after a singing class when Chakraborty allegedly molested the girl student. The victim's parents only learned about the incident during a psychological treatment session in Bengaluru, where she disclosed the details to her doctor.
Following this revelation, the parents filed a complaint with the Belgharia police station in North 24 Parganas district. The case was then transferred to the Charu Market police station for further investigation.
The police are now examining CCTV footage from the institute and interviewing students and staff to gather more information about the incident. Further details on the matter are awaited.
