rohit sharma overtakes sachin tendulkar, moves to 2nd spot in unwanted list

India's undefeated streak at home came to a halt at the hands of New Zealand in Pune. Team India was on a winning streak since March 2013 and didn't lose a home Test series until October 2024. Tom Latham-led New Zealand marked an end to India's 11-year-long streak. Rohit, who replaced Virat Kohli as the Test captain, couldn't negate the NZ threat and India suffered a defeat under him.

With this defeat, Rohit went past Sachin Tendulkar and moved to the second spot in an unwanted. The present India Test captain has now lost 4 matches at home. He shares the second spot with Kapil Dev and Mohammed Azharuddin. Both the Indian legends captained India in 20 home Tests while India have played 15 home matches under Rohit.

MAK Pataudi 9
Rohit Sharma, Kapil Dev and Mohammed Azharuddin 4

India suffered their first home defeat under Rohit against Australia in 2023. The visiting side stunned India in Indore and won the third Test of the series by 9 wickets. The fourth Test in Ahmedabad ended in a draw. India won the first 2 Tests to clinch the series.

India's second home defeat under Rohit came against England early in 2024. The visiting side won the series opener by 28 runs. India had won the next four Tests to clinch the series 4-1.

After conquering Bangladesh 2-0, India were expected to dominate New Zealand too. But they kicked off the series with a win in Bengaluru and clinched the series in Pune.

Tom Latham etched his name in history books by becoming the first New Zealand captain to lead his team to a series win in India. He replaced Tim Southee before the start of the series. Southee stepped down after NZ lost the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka recently.
