Mumbai Indians (MI) had their worst-ever season in IPL 2024 and they finished at the last spot in the points table. The Hardik Pandya-led side only managed to win 4 out of 14 matches. The team management made a big change before the season by removing Rohit Sharma from captaincy. Hardik Pandya, who made his return to MI from Gujarat Titans via trade, was given the captaincy.
Hardik didn't have a memorable return to MI. With a mega-auction likely to take place before IPL 2025, MI will have to make some tough calls while there are also doubts over Rohit Sharma's future with the team. Here, we have a look at 4 biggest things that can happen at Mumbai Indians before IPL 2025 –

Mumbai Indians Receive Delightful News Amidst Speculations Of Rohit Sharma Leaving MI Before IPL 2025
Rohit Sharma captained Team India to a title win in the 2024 T20 World Cup and he would want to lead a team in IPL. While nothing is confirmed, it looks like he could leave Mumbai Indians and enter the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Even though Rohit has retired from T20Is, he is still the Test and ODI teams' captain.
Rohit has won five IPL trophies as captain and would be vying to win another cup. He will be in high demand if he decides to leave MI and enter the IPL 2025 auction.

Despite MI's forgettable IPL 2024 season, no change is expected in captaincy. The successful teams give a long rope to their captains and players. The MI team management isn't expected to change their captain after just one season.
The star all-rounder has proven his mettle in IPL as captain. He captained Gujarat Titans to a title win in IPL 2022 and once again led them to an IPL final in 2023. Hardik will surely have big say in deciding the players that MI will buy if he is retained as the captain.
Suryakumar Yadav retained
MI shockingly ignored Suryakumar Yadav for captaincy before IPL 2024. The national selectors though wanted Suryakumar as captain after Rohit's retirement and he pipped Hardik to become the T20I team's captain.
Suryakumar could continue to play under Hardik at MI. Not to forget, it was only after joining MI that Suryakumar came into national contention. He might decide to stay with MI.
Jasprit Bumrah released
The IPL franchises broke their banks for Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins and both the bowlers were sold for more than Rs 20 crore each. Jasprit Bumrah is another bowler who deserves more than this but he might not get paid this much money even if he is retained.
Bumrah is the biggest asset in the bowling department for any team he plays for and he would surely go for more than Rs 15 crore if he enters the auction. For MI to pay Rs 15 crore or more than that to top players like Hardik, Suryakumar and Bumrah would not be possible. They might not be able to retain Bumrah if there's a mega-auction.
