Monday morning, there was a partial evacuation at River Ridge High School due to a fire that started on the top of the recently constructed building. Initially reported as a commercial fire at the high school, workers were called in at 10:57 a.m. on September 23, according to Jennifer Schmidt, deputy chief of Lacey Fire District 3. There was also reports of burning brush from several callers.
Upon their arrival at 11:04 a.m., the team saw that a construction crew was hard at work on the top of a recently constructed building on campus. On Monday morning, as the team was welding close by, a lot of rubbish, including cardboard and pallets, caught fire.
Schmidt claimed that since there was no one inside the building and the new structure has a steel roof, the fire didn't go very far. According to her, there was serious fire damage to four to six of the air conditioning units planned for the new structure.
She stated that, out of extreme caution, pupils from surrounding schools were evacuated and brought to the football field. She said that not many individuals were in the vicinity of the fire because it occurred in a large project area. By 11:15 am, the area was cleaned.
Where Is River Ridge?
River Ridge is a suburb of New Orleans and a census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, in the United States. In 2000, there were 14,588 people living there.
The history of River Ridge is therefore essentially related to the history of post-World War II Jefferson Parish and is relatively devoid of notable incidents or drama, as the present town is mostly a suburban residential neighborhood of very recent origin.
