renault bigster makes global debut as the larger sibling of the new duster

Renault's budget brand Dacia has revealed the Duster-based Bigster SUV for the European market. The new SUV is expected to make its first public appearance at the Paris Motor Show. The Bigster is essentially a bigger version of the compact SUV Duster, with an extra length of 230 mm. The increase in size has also resulted in the wheelbase extending by 43 mm. The Bigster was expected to debut with a seven-seater layout. However, Dacia has gone for a five-seater configuration, resulting in a massive boot space of 667 litres.

The exterior styling of the Bigster is mainly identical to the new Duster, albeit with increased proportions. The front fascia of the two SUVs shares its aesthetics. However, the Bigster has a slightly revised bumper featuring a distinct foglamp housing. The side profile of the two SUVs is also similar. They both share the same design for alloy wheels. At the back, Bigster's tail lights feature a smart design and a chunky bumper that lend it a butch look.

The new Bigster SUV's cabin is designed like the Duster's. The dashboard design is crisp. In terms of tech, there is a 10.1-inch floating touchscreen and a 10-inch digital driver's display. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, electric tailgate, wireless phone charging, electrical driver's seat adjustment, and dual-zone climate control.

Dacia is offering the Bigster with three engine options. The first is a hybrid setup that uses a four-cylinder petrol engine and two electric motors. It has a total system output of 155 hp. The version uses a six-speed automatic gearbox. The second powertrain option on the Bigster uses a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine paired with a mild-hybrid system. This version comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and the option of four-wheel drive.

The third and final engine option on the Dacia Bigster is a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol that runs on LPG. Thanks to its 50-litre petrol and 49-litre LPG tank, it offers a range of 1,450 km. Renault is soon going to introduce the Duster SUV in India. We expect it to also bring the Bigster to our market, possibly as a 7-seater version of the Duster.
