ravichandran ashwin joins ravindra jadeja in rare list; star duo become only 2 players in world to score 1000+ runs and take 100 wickets in wtc history

After yet another top-order collapse for the Indian cricket team, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were once again the Indian cricket team's saviours as they put up a 100-run partnership for the seventh wicket during the first day of play in the first Test match between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday (September 19).

Ashwin scored the 20th 50+ score of his career, making a half-century in just 58 balls. During his innings, Ashwin achieved a huge feat by completing 1,000 runs in the history of the World Test Championship (WTC). While the star Indian cricketer is the 55th player to achieve the feat, he is only the second, after Ravindra Jadeja, to complete this rare achievement.

Ashwin became only the second cricketer in the world to complete 1000 runs in the history of the WTC and also have more than 100 wickets to his name. Earlier this year, Jadeja had become the first player in the world to achieve the feat during India's series against England.

Talking about the match, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl first. Hasan Mahmud rattled the Indian top order as Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6) departed for single-digit scores. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant put India back on track with a 60-run partnership. However, both departed in quick succession, while KL Rahul also failed to make a mark on his comeback test.

Earlier this year, Ashwin had created history by becoming the second Indian player in history to complete 500 Test wickets during the England series. He also played the 100th Test of his career in March at Dharamshala.
