Ravichandran Ashwin wrote his name in the history books during the first day of play in the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday (September 19) with a spectacular effort with the bat to rescue India from a tough position.
With India reeling at 144-6 after losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Ashwin joined Jadeja on the crease with a big rescue job at their hands. The duo once again proved to be India's crisis men with a stunning partnership that has crossed the 150-run mark.
Ashwin set the pace in the partnership as he raced to a half-century in just 58 balls. This was the second quickest instance of the 38-year-old reaching the milestone in his career. Later, he completed the 6th Test ton of his career in just 108 balls making it the fastest century of his career. It is the seocnd time he has reached the milestone in Chennai, which is his home ground.

Ashwin's incredible knock was the 20th occasion of him crossing the 50-run mark in his career. As a result of this, the 101 Test-veteran Indian has become the first cricketer in the history of the sport to have 20 50+ scores with the bat and 30+ five-wicket hauls to his name in Test cricket.
Ashwin has the joint-third most five-wicket hauls to his name in Test cricket history. In his career, Ashwin has 516 wickets, which include 36 occasions of him taking five or more wickets in an innings. He is only one short of equaling Shane Warne's tally (37). Muttiah Muralitharan leads the list with 67 five-wicket hauls to his name.

Among players with more than 30 five-wicket hauls to his name, Richard Hadlee was closest to the milestone with 17 50+ scores (15 centuries, 2 half-centuries).
Among players with more than 20 five-wicket hauls; Ian Botham, Kapil Dev, and Imran Khan all have more than 20+ fifty plus scores in their name but neither completed 30 five-wicket hauls. Botham was the closest with 27 five-wicket hauls in his career.
