He shared that Ranveer used paper clips to feel bullet pain in the stomach. The director added, “The next day, he had to shoot a scene where he is removing a bullet from his stomach. He was like, ‘Sir, what do I do to feel the pain there?’ I was like, ‘Yaar, acting karle’, but he was like, ‘No, but I need something to feel the pain’, he then put paper clips there and started to jog around the hills to get himself in the zone so that in the shot he can be seen sweating and in pain. After the shoot, he finally removed the clip and his back had a spasm. Because he had been feeling the pain in the side, he didn’t feel the pain in the back. And he just collapsed.” Vikramaditya then said that Ranveer had to be taken out of Dalhousie through a chopper.

In a previous interview with Film Companion, Ranveer revealed he stapled himself to experience the pain of bullet. He said, “Back then, I am thinking to myself: ‘I have never been shot, now I am going to get shot. So how am I going to depict a real sort of pain on screen?’ Now when I look back on Lootera, I watch the scenes like this (leans back and make an expression of discomfort) because it takes me back to a memory of immense amount of physical pain. It’s all real. But today, having acquired more knowledge and comfort with my craft, I know that there is another way of creating that effect.”

Lootera also starred Sonakshi Sinha. The film is partly based on O. Henry’s 1907 short story The Last Leaf.
