rajasthan royals likely retention list: sanju samson to continue as captain, jos buttler out?

The BCCI will soon release the rules and regulations for IPL 2025. The apex board met the owners of the franchises in July. There are high chances of the BCCI staging a mega-auction this year and the franchises will be able to retain a certain number of players. There were reports that some of the franchises were against the mega-auction.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) is one of the teams that reportedly doesn’t want a mega-auction. They have a well-settled squad and would not want many changes in it. As the fans wait for an update from the BCCI, here we have a look at Rajasthan Royals’ likely retention list if there’s a mega-auction –

Sanju Samson retained

There is no doubt over Sanju Samson's future with Rajasthan Royals and he looks all but set to continue as their captain. Under Samson, RR made it to the final of IPL 2022. They haven't played an IPL final since then but Samson looks set to be given a long rope.

Jos Buttler in or out?

Jos Buttler is one of the best white-ball batters and there is no way that RR would let him go. RR retained him before the IPL 2022 mega-auction and they aren't expected to release him. Buttler batted with a strike rate of 140.78 for his 359 runs in 11 matches in IPL 2024. Buttler could get a pay raise if he is retained.

Riyan Parag retained?

Rajasthan Royals have always backed Riyan Parag and they look set to retain him. Parag joined RR in 2019 and he has been playing for them since then. RR did release Parag before the IPL 2022 mega-auction but they re-signed him in the auction. Parag is now a capped player and he will get a pay raise if RR retain him.

Retain or release Dhruv Jurel?

RR bought Dhruv Jurel for Rs 20 lakh. He became a capped player before IPL 2024. Dhruv can be RR's full-time wicketkeeper in the long run and they might retain him before the auction. He has scored 347 runs for RR with a strike rate of 151.53.
