Purnima Shraddha is also known as, Shraddhi Purnima and Proshthapadi Purnima. It falls a day before the start of Pitru Paksha, and there is also a tradition of performing Shraddha on this day. However, it is not considered part of the Pitru Paksha. For those who pass away on the Purnima date, Mahalaya Shraddha is also performed on the Amavasya Shraddha date.
Generally, Pitru Paksha begins the day after Bhadrapada Purnima Shraddha. On this day too, Shraddha should be performed during the Kutup, Rauhin, and other auspicious times, and the rituals should be completed before the end of the afternoon period. Tarpan should be done at the end of the Shraddha.
In Sanatan Dharma, Pitru Paksha is considered extremely significant. According to religious beliefs, performing Shraddha for ancestors during this period helps them attain salvation, and the person performing the rituals receives their blessings. It's also believed that the souls of our ancestors visit us during the Pitru Paksha receive offerings and give their blessings.
