The Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry has announced holiday on October 30. Following the orders, all the schools, colleges and government offices will remain closed in the Puducherry, Karaikal, and Yanam regions of the Union Territory. However, instead of this holiday, schools and offices will be opened on Saturday, November 16.
The official order reads, "The Puducherry LG declares that Wednesday, 30th October, will be a holiday for all government offices, including Public Sector Undertakings and educational institutions (including professional colleges) in Puducherry, Karaikal, and Yanam on account of Deepavali Eve. November 16 (Saturday) will be a compensatory working day in lieu of this leave."
Tamil Nadu Schools Closed on November 1
Tamil Nadu Government also announced holiday on November 1 so that people can enjoy extended weekend and join back school/office on Monday, November 4. This decision is intended to benefit students, parents, teachers, and government staff travelling to their native places for the festival. Instead of this holiday, November 9 will be a compensatory working day.
This was officially announced through a government release on October 19, 2024. The release reads, "The government has declared 9 November as a working day to make up for the holiday." It came after the Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organizations and Government Employees’ Organizations (JACTTO-GEO) requested the Chief Minister to declare November 1 as a holiday.
