pre- and post-diwali skincare: glow through the festivities with expert tips!

The festive season brings with it the joy of celebrations, family gatherings, and special events. With Diwali on the way, the usual preparations—decorating, cooking, shopping—are in full swing. But while gearing up for the festivities, it is worth giving your skincare a little extra attention too.

We speak with Dr Niketa Sonavane, Celebrity Dermatologist and founder of Ambrosia Aesthetics, Mumbai, on what are some of the easy, effective ways to get your skin glowing in time for the celebrations.

Keep hydrated

Hydration is important for vibrant skin. Drinking enough water is the easiest way to keep your skin supple, but a little more care can go a long way. “Try a hyaluronic acid serum in your skincare routine to lock in moisture, giving your skin a fresh, smooth look,” says Dr Sonavane.

Gentle exfoliation

Exfoliating a couple of times a week helps get rid of dead skin cells and boosts skin radiance. “Use mild exfoliants like AHAs or BHAs, which offer deep cleaning without rough scrubbing. This clears the way for fresh skin, making your complexion look even and glowing. Don’t forget to follow up with a moisturiser,” she says.

Use the sunscreen always

While the cooler weather can make it easy to forget, sunscreen is essential. According to the expert, a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher will keep your skin safe from UV rays while you're out shopping or celebrating, helping to prevent dark spots and uneven skin tone.

Try bio remodelling for extra radiance

Dr Sonavane says for those looking to take their skincare to the next level ahead of the Diwali festivities, bio remodelling is an innovative treatment you might want to consider. “Profhilo procedure in bio remodelling is a minimally invasive method that uses ultrapure hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate the skin and remodel its structure. It stimulates the skin’s natural regenerative processes, enhancing tone, texture, and elasticity,” she says.

Unlike traditional fillers, which are designed to add volume to specific areas, bio remodelling works on a cellular level to improve overall skin quality. “This treatment can give you that natural, dewy glow with minimal downtime, perfect for the festive season when time is of the essence,” says Dr Sonavane.

Add vitamin C for brightness

A Vitamin C serum can give your skin a noticeable brightness. It works by fading dark spots and evening out your skin tone, ensuring you look radiant through Diwali. Moreover, its antioxidant properties provide an extra layer of safety.

Pamper with a face mask

While detoxifying masks help clear out impurities for a smooth finish, on the other hand hydrating masks can immediately revive dry skin. “DIY ingredients like honey or aloe vera for a simple at-home treatment can also work wonders,” she says.

Under-eye area care

After late-night celebrations, the skin around your eyes often shows signs of fatigue. A good eye cream with caffeine or peptides can reduce puffiness and brighten dark circles.
