porn video runs on advertisement board in delhi connaught place hacking suspected

New Delhi: The Delhi police has registered an FIR after a porn video was displayed on a digital advertisement board in the Connaught Place area, the officials said on Saturday. Connaught Place is an iconic commercial area that lies in the heart of the national capital. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) said that advanced technology may have been used for “hacking” the screen.

According to PTI, the incident came to light when passersby saw the video being run on one of the LED screens put up for advertisements on Thursday night in Connaught Place's H Block, the officials said.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), under whose jurisdiction the area falls, issued a statement saying advanced technology may have been used for "hacking" the screen.

The video clip, which was a few seconds long, was later removed from the board with the help of NDMC officials, a police officer said.

The NDMC said that two type of panels are operated in the areas under its jurisdiction. Out of these two, one is for advertisement and another is an interactive touchscreen. It added advertisement boards had been put up at 50 locations under its jurisdiction.

"Both panels are of international standard and controlled by a server which is completely secured with a firewall and antivirus. We are also providing hotspots free of cost for public usage in the NDMC areas," the statement read, as quoted by PTI.

It said that the incident is "one of its kind" and added that it is trying to find out how the firewall was breached, PTI reported.

The NDMC highlighted that the breach only took place at one location, therefore, that particular LED board may have been hacked "using some advance technique" – which it said it is "trying to find out".

A case under the relevant sections of the BNS has been registered and investigations are ongoing to nab those responsible, the police officer said.
