Tribute to Basaveshwara Statue

On the occasion, Pooja Gandhi garlanded the statue of Basaveshwara, the 12th-century social reformer known for his contributions to human rights, gender equality, and the fight against caste discrimination. She expressed her deep admiration for Basaveshwara and her commitment to following his teachings.

The Basaveshwara statue, unveiled by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2015, holds historical significance as it was the first statue to be inaugurated by an Indian Prime Minister in the UK.

It also holds a rare distinction, having received approval from the British Cabinet under the UK Statutes Act of 1854. Recently, on March 5, 2023, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also paid homage to the statue during his visit to London.
