Police responded to reports of a shooting near Cary High School, North Carolina.

Witnesses reported seeing several police cars and ambulances near the school.

Cary Police Chief Terry Sult said that one person was wounded and a suspect is taken into custody.

Cary High school, located at 638 Walnut Street, went into an alarming state when reports of gunfire circulated in the afternoon. The school said it was on "code yellow" lockdown around 2:46 pm. Another school, East Cary Magnet Middle located on SE Maynard Road also went on a code yellow lockdown.

The schools maintained code yellow lockdowns as a precautionary measure to possible threats around the area. All schools reported that the students were safe.

The active shooter was reported at 2:30 pm in the 600 block of Walnut Street. Cary Police Chief Terry Sult said that investigators believe the shooting was planned and both the victim and the suspect knew each other.
