Prime Minister, PM Internship Scheme 2024 registrations have started. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, MCA released the notification and started the registration process on 12 October 2024. As many as 1 crore youth will get an opportunity to be trained at one of the leading 500 companies of India. Check the eligibility, scheme details and how to apply.
For the uninformed, PM Internship Scheme was announced in the Budget 2024-25. Under the scheme, the Government of India has urged the top companies to offer paid internship to the youth. Candidates who are eligible and get an internship will get a stipend of Rs. 5000 per month. Under the scheme, Rs. 4500 will be paid by the Government and companies will pay Rs. 500. Companies may, if they so choose offer more as well. Rs. 6000 will be paid additionally to the candidates for incidentals.
The internship will be for a period of 12 months. Out of these, at least 6 months will include actual work experience. This is an excellent opportunity as the best companies like Infosys, Reliance, Tata Capital, ITC, HCL, ICICI Bank, etc. will be recruiting interns and training the youth in various departments. Furthermore, within the scheme, the interns will also be eligible for insurance coverage under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana by Government of India.
PM Internship Scheme: Eligibility
The scheme has been launched with two specific goals – to provide on the job training to the youth and also to help the young unemployed get a basic monetary relief by means of the stipend. There are 3 basic eligibility criteria for the internship scheme
- You must be in the age groupof 21 to 24 years as of the last date of submission for the internship and must be an Indian National
- You must not have a full time employment at the time of the internship
- For education, anyone who is pursuing full time education is not eligible. Candidates, however, who are enrolled in distance or online programmes are eligible and can apply. Also, candidates who have passed high school or higher secondary school or possess a certificate from an ITI or hold a diploma from a Polytechnic Institute or graduate degree holders of BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, BBA, BPharma, etc., are all eligible to apply
PM Internship Scheme 2024: Who are Not Eligible
While the scheme has tried to be inclusive for the youth, it has stipulated a few criteria for ineligibility as well. The following candidates are not eligible to apply for the PM Internship Scheme:
- Candidates who have graduated from IITs, IIMs, National Law Universities, IISER, NIDs and IIITs.
- Candidates who have a professional certificate or degree like CA, CMA, MBBS, BDS, MBA and any Master’s or higher degree
- Candidates already undergoing skill, internship, apprenticeship or student training programme run by the Central or State Government
- Candidates who have completed apprenticeship, training under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme or National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme
- Candidates whose family income (family includes self, parents, spouse) exceeds Rs. 8 lakh per annum
- Candidates whose family member/s is a permanent or regular government employee
PM Internship Scheme 2024: How to Apply
Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria need to apply by first creating a profile online on the https://pminternship.mca.gov.in portal. Once the profile is created, the candidates will be contacted by the partner companies for the same.
Remember, the scheme is a direct benefit transfer scheme. That means that the candidates, once they are offered the internship will receive Rs. 4500 directly from the government and the remaining from the company. Furthermore, an amount of Rs. 6000 will also be transferred at the time of the joining by the government to help the candidates with any incidentals.
