The IPL mega auction marks its return for the first time after three years in 2025 season, with the two-day event taking place at Jeddhah in Saudi Arabia on November 24 (Sunday) and 25 (Monday). The team which is expected to make the noise at the mega auction are the Punjab Kings, who are aiming for a full revamp to their squad having released all their star players and retaining just 2 uncapped stars. They go into the auction with Rs 110.5 crore which is the biggest purse among all 10 teams.
Punjab Kings have retained just two uncapped stars in Shashank Singh for Rs 5.5 crore and Prabhsimran Singh for Rs 4.4 crore, thus showing faith in relatively unknown quantities who have done well for them in the past. Hence, PBKS also enter the auction with the most number of RTM cards (4) among all franchises.
PBKS have appointed Ricky Ponting as the head coach of their franchise after he was relieved of his duties as Delhi Capitals head coach before the auction. DC also released Rishabh Pant, who could go down as the biggest purchase ever in IPL auction history. With PBKS having the most amount of money to spent, they could go all out for Pant, given his deep camaraderie with Ponting. There have also been rumours of Ponting wanting star Australian batter Steve Smith as captain for the franchise, and hence we may see them going all out for him as well.
