The Omaha Police Department said a youngster was hurt in a gunshot at Northwest High School, and Omaha police rushed to the scene.
An individual believed to be the suspect in the shooting has been taken into custody. Police will remain in the area for follow up to the investigation and for reunification with parents. There is no threat to the community.

Whether the incident took place inside or outside the school was not confirmed by the police. Authorities verified that the school, which is close to 82nd Street and Crown Point Avenue, was put under lockdown. The Omaha Police dispatch verified that the school is home to one casualty. They reported the event at around 12:20 p.m. At 12:30 p.m., OPS went into lockdown.
The accused shooter is in custody, according to OPD. According to police, the area is safe.
