The Union Cabinet has approved two major railway projects worth Rs 6,798 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, aimed at enhancing connectivity and infrastructure.
At a cost of Rs 2,245 crore, a new railway line will be built in Andhra Pradesh that will run 57 km between Errupalem and Namburu via Amaravati. It is anticipated that this line will enhance communication between the southern states and central and northern India.

Additionally, it will make religious locations like the Dhyana Buddha statue and the Amaralingeswara Swamy Temple easier to reach. A 3-kilometer bridge across the Krishna River is also part of the project, which is expected to save 6 crore kg of carbon dioxide emissions—the equivalent of growing 25 lakh trees—and generate 19 lakh human workdays.
The 256-kilometer Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur and Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga sections in Bihar will be doubled as part of a Rs 4,553 crore project. By connecting the Inland Container Depot in Birgun and running parallel to the Nepali border, this project will enhance connectivity for both Uttar Pradesh and North Bihar.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw explained that the projects are not politically driven but rather are a part of the ongoing efforts to improve India's railway network, even if they align with the BJP's alliances in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar.
