New Delhi: Are banks closed today? This question is making rounds in customers’ minds as a nationwide strike called by the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA). As of now, there is no official confirmation of this. However, banking services across the country might be affected today due to the nationwide strike.
The strike has been organized to protest against the Bank of India's decision to issue charge sheets to thirteen office bearers of its staff union. These officers were penalized for attending the 23rd Biennial Conference of the Bank of India Staff Union in Kerala. The AIBEA has called for the strike to show solidarity with the union leaders who have been charge-sheeted.
CH Venkatachalam, General Secretary of AIBEA, informed the media about the strike and released a press statement outlining the association's demands from the government. He also posted the same on X.
