Mumbai: Ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, the first look of Mumbai’s iconic Lalbaugcha Raja was unveiled on Thursday evening. The history of Lalbaugcha Raja is well known, as it is the popular Ganesh idol of the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal. Celebrated with great enthusiasm, devotees witnessed Bappa in a beautiful maroon attire.

The Lalbaugcha Raja is located at Putlabai Chowk and was founded in 1934. It has been cared for by the Kambli family for over eight decades. This year, Anant Ambani has been appointed as an honorary member of the executive committee of the Lalbaugcha Raja Ganeshotsav Mandal in Mumbai, according to a report by news agency ANI.
Ganesh Chaturthi, a ten-day festival that begins on the fourth day of the Hindu lunisolar calendar month 'Bhadrapada', will commence on Saturday (September 7) this year. This auspicious ten-day occasion starts with 'Chaturthi' and ends on 'Anantha Chaturdashi', the report added.
The festive period is also referred to as 'Vinayak Chaturthi' or 'Vinayak Chavithi'. Notably, the occasion celebrates Ganesha as the 'God of New Beginnings' and the 'Remover of Obstacles', as well as the god of wisdom and intelligence.
Ganesh Chaturthi, or Ganeshotsav, is celebrated with great fanfare in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra. Moreover, lakhs of devotees visit the mandals to seek blessings from Lord Ganesh.
For the festivities, people bring Lord Ganesh idols to their homes, observe fasts, prepare mouth-watering delicacies, and visit pandals during the festival, the ANI report mentioned.

In another news the Mumbai Coastal Road will stay open for 24 hours during Ganesh Chaturthi from September 7 to 17. The temporary arrangements have been made on the route, connecting Marine Drive to Worli, for catering to extra traffic during grand celebrations of the festival across the Maharashtra's capital city. With the Coastal Road in operation, the Mumbai Traffic Police will be able to keep the vehicles moving, avoiding heavy congestion. The approval was given by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in response to a request by the Mumbai Traffic Police.
